Posted

Esther, 90, passed away on November 19, 2020. Esther was born to Maurice and Ida Finch on September 30, 1930 in Sioux Falls, S.D. Esther had one brother,
Vernon (deceased) and three sisters, Edna Nelson (deceased); Ella Potratz (deceased); and Edith Borgen - now 101 years young and living in Brandon, SD).
Esther attended the small rural Crooks, SD elementary school and later graduated from the Lyons, SD high school.
While living in Crooks she met Perry G. LaShier and after dating for some time they were married on September 18, 1949. Perry and Esther were industrious and hard-working individuals. They purchased lumber and materials from a farmer who was demolishing an old barn. Those materials were used to construct their family home in Crooks.
Esther obtained a state license to be a hair stylist after they moved into their new home in Crooks. Perry remodeled a portion of the basement into a hair salon where Esther met the many women in Crooks who came for their haircuts, permanents, and time to socialize with their neighbors and friends.
Esther and Perry moved to Phoenix, AZ in 1967. After retiring from the Alhambra School District in 1990 Esther and her husband Perry traveled the country in their recreational vehicle. They often led groups of other RV’ers in large caravans. They spent many summers near the Black Hills or at their favorite campground near Cottonwood, AZ. Esther and Perry made several international trips with their favorite one going to Sweden to meet Esther’s relatives as her mother had immigrated to the USA in the early 1900’s.
Esther was a member of Shepherd of the Desert Lutheran Church of Sun City, AZ.
She is survived by three children, Keith (Jacque), Nina (Sam) Ehlers, and Mory (Peggy). In addition, she has 6 grandchildren: Marie, Annie, Keith Jr., Adrienne, Christopher (deceased), and Jennifer; and 9 great-grandchildren.
Those desiring to honor Esther may wish to donate to Shepherd of the Desert Lutheran Church at 11025 N. 111th Ave., Sun City, AZ 85351.
