Arizona has added 431 cases and 24 deaths of COVID-19 overnight, according to the state Department of Health Services.
As of the morning of Saturday, May 23, the ADHS reports 16,039 cases and 799 deaths of the new coronavirus. Also, a total of 253,789 COVID-19 tests have been done in Arizona.
For most people, the coronavirus causes mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough, that clear up in two to three weeks. But it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia, and death for some people, especially older adults and people with existing health problems.
As COVID-19 continues to spread in the U.S., the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has recommended wearing cloth face coverings in public when physical distancing is difficult to maintain, according to a May 21 blog from Dr. Cara M. Christ, director of the Arizona Department of Health Services.
“Cloth face coverings aren’t medical in nature and don’t require any specific fabrics, chemicals, or disinfectants to work. They are simply barrier protections, creating a barrier between your face and the air around you. Cloth face coverings prevent you from spreading respiratory droplets and can prevent you from getting the virus from others,” she wrote.
“We all have a role in preventing the spread of COVID-19. Wearing a cloth face covering is one thing you can do to keep your family, co-workers, and community safe,” Dr. Christ wrote. Read the blog here.
