Arizona Teachers Receive $1 Million Through Palo Verde Fiesta Bowl

Posted

Continuing the Fiesta Bowl Organization’s annual tradition of honoring, supporting and celebrating educators throughout Arizona, Fiesta Bowl Charities granted 400 teachers with $2,500 each through the Palo Verde Fiesta Bowl Charities Wishes for Teachers Draft Day presented by SRP.

The wishes were spread throughout the state this year with 72 cities and towns represented amongst the 400 teachers selected. Nearly 212,000 students across 321 schools and 95 districts will be positively impacted by their teachers’ wishes with this year.

A full list of teachers who received a Palo Verde Fiesta Bowl Charities Wishes for Teachers grant can be found here.

Recipients included those teaching the arts to science, both gifted and special education, and languages and life skills amongst a diverse group of subjects.

The 400 wishes granted will benefit teachers who will aim to enrich the lives of their students through technology improvements, addition of educational programs and fitness equipment and much more.

Through the program, here are the classroom wishes being granted to Buckeye teachers:

  • Melinda Cook, an art teacher at Sequoia Pathfinder Academy at Verrado West in Buckeye, will purchase new art supplies for their classroom.
  • Lisa Craig, a physical education teacher at Verrado Elementary School in Buckeye, will purchase new sports equipment.
  • Andrea Guajardo, a physical education teacher at Imagine Schools in Buckeye, will purchase new equipment for their physical education class.
  • Bethany Hice, an art teacher at Liberty Elementary School in Buckeye, will purchase iPads for digital art programming.
  • Megan King, a second grade teacher at Imagine Schools in Buckeye, will purchase reading and math manipulatives for their classroom.
  • Bernice Mangum, a special education teacher at Marionneaux Elementary School in Buckeye, will purchase hands-on learning tools to support their students.
  • Dedra Mires, a third grade teacher Marionneaux Elementary School in Buckeye, will purchase new books for their classroom.
  • Anahis Oros, a design class teacher at The Odyssey Institute for Advanced and International Studies in Buckeye, will provide flexible seating options for their students.
  • Cumorah Richardson, a special education teacher at Marionneaux Elementary School in Buckeye, will purchase new resources for their classroom including books, sports equipment and items for their student store.
  • Shy Schroder, a math teacher at Rainbow Valley School in Buckeye, will purchase white board tables for their classroom.
  • Wilson Shana, an art teacher at John S. McCain III Elementary School in Buckeye, will purchase cameras for digital art.

This year’s $1 million total donation brings the Wishes for Teachers’ seven-year cumulative grant total to $5.7 million awarded to 1,600 teachers, impacting more than 700,000 students across Arizona.

Created in 2016, the Fiesta Bowl Wishes for Teachers program grants classroom wishes to Arizona teachers. Public and charter school K-12 teachers across the state are invited to apply each fall with the recipients verified and selected by a random drawing during the Palo Verde Fiesta Bowl Charities Wishes for Teachers Draft Day presented by Salt River Project (SRP).
