Improvements to the intersection of Jackrabbit Trail and Indian School Road in Buckeye are expected to take 12 months.

The Buckeye city council at its July 7 meeting approved the city’s 2020/21 Fiscal Year budget, which included $476,000 for the construction project from Buckeye’s $3 million General Fund.

City communications manager Annie DeChance said July 14 that the project is tentatively scheduled to start this month, and has an approximate completion date of July 2021.

The project will:

  • Modify the intersection to construct a second northbound left turn lane on Jackrabbit Trail.
  • Modify the raised island on the northwest corner to shift southbound traffic to the west.
  • Modify curb return on the southwest corner to shift southbound traffic to the west, includes relocating Type A signal pole.
  • Provide pavement widening on the west side of Jackrabbit Trail south of Indian School Road approximately 700 feet to match existing widened area to allow continuous 3-lane roadway cross section.

The project was included the 2019/20 Capital Improvements Program (CIP) budget, but CIP projects are built based on need and priority. It was started last fiscal year with the contract award, but will be completed this fiscal year.
