Wunderlich: Used Mountain View Road to access home after recent fire

Posted

Responding comment to "Ruthko: Not in favor of opening Mountain View Road": We are one of the families affected by the closure of these roads to our neighborhood at the base of the Superstitions.

During this latest fire we used the cut-down state Trust Land fencing on Lost Dutchman and city-barricade removal on Mountain View Road performed by one of our neighbors to access our home on the east side of the fire off State Route 88 as 88 was closed by the fire district and cutting through these closed roads were our only option to access our home.

Over the past 20-plus years of living here we have watched the city of AJ, Pinal County and the state close three out of four ingress and egress road options to our property except Highway 88.

The most recent closure took place after those of us living on the mountain refused to be annexed by the city of AJ.

The woman who wrote this article most likely lives off Jacob Waltz Street, which is the last road closed and the easiest to reopen.

This latest fire is the second in less than a year off Highway 88 and sooner or later something much worse could happen not to mention putting all the Superstition residents at risk of an accident on Highway 88 due to the high volume of lake, bike riders and snowbirds using our only ingress and egress option.

Good job Todd House. And you have our vote in November against Serdy whose AJ team closed off the last access road in the first place.
