Ribbing: Impossible to return $80M to those who paid sales tax

Posted

I read with interest your column on the Arizona Supreme Court ruling regarding the illegal sales tax (“AZ Supreme Court rejects voter-approved road tax: $80M collected since 2017 vote” on the cover of the April 2022 issue of the Apache Junction/Gold Canyon Independent).

I read it and I couldn’t help but be amazed at the ignorance of whomever drafted the bill to tax citizens a half-cent sales tax but only on purchases less than $10,000.

Didn’t anyone from the legal world read this before just putting it on the ballot? And to keep collecting it while it was going through the courts until they collected $80 million. Now what to do with all that money that I helped put into it?

Gee, I can’t think of a more trustworthy place to keep an eye on it than the Arizona Department of Revenue. This can’t be true.

Pinal county looks stupid.

How can you “redistribute” all that money people were charged? Impossible.

I’m sure “some” politician is already salivating on how to get his hands on it.

Thanks for informative column.
