The town of Superior has been being placed in “Set Be Alert” status due to the Telegraph Fire wildfire, which has burned 1,500 acres.
“This means there is significant danger in your area. Locate your emergency go kit and be ready to evacuate if notified from public safety officials. This is not an evacuation notification,” the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office said on Twitter @PinalCSO.

The Telegraph Fire in the Globe Ranger District is about 3 miles south of Superior, according to the website for InciWeb, an interagency all-risk incident information management system.
The fire was reported around 1:30 p.m. June 4 and its cause is unknown. Arizona State Route 177 is closed south of Superior. Officials anticipate area closures soon south of U.S. Highway 60.
“It continues to exhibit extreme fire behavior, burning in mostly shrub and grass with very low fuel moisture. Red Flag conditions are expected through the weekend,” the website for InciWeb states.
An estimated 150 personnel are managing the fire including one hotshot crew, two hand crews and five engines, with additional support from the State of Arizona, Gila District Bureau of Land Management and Pinal County. A Type 1 Incident Management Team has been ordered.
