New prekindergarten program at Apache Junction TLC

Posted

Apache Junction Unified School District recently announced the launch of KickStart to Kindergarten, a new early childhood academic program for 4 and 5-year-old preschoolers that will begin July 25 for the 2022-23 school year.

The program will be offered 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. Monday-Friday at The Early Learning Center, 1575 W. Southern Ave. in Apache Junction. The cost is $150 per week.

Registration is underway and can be completed at ajusd.org/Page/13810. Applicants can call the TLC at 480-688-7570 to be a part of the Childfind Screening Event. Parents and guardians are encouraged to register applicants as early as possible as openings are limited.

“The Early Learning Center is beyond thrilled to add to our menu of services for early childhood,” said Alexis Scott, TLC coordinator and a former AJUSD Teacher of the Year. “The KickStart to Kindergarten experience will add to our programming here at TLC and prepare our students for a bright future and a smooth transition into kindergarten. We are happy to announce the development of this program and we are confident we will meet student’s needs.”

KickStart will have a built-in curriculum that focuses on readiness and writing, language and literacy, and numbers and math. Instruction will be provided by a certified teacher and teacher’s assistant. The curriculum fosters letter recognition and development, exposes students to rich literature fostering a love of reading and vocabulary, as well as teaching students counting, patterning, sequencing, problem-solving and even pregeometry skills.

The curriculum also promotes hands-on learning and will allow students time to explore with real objects/manipulatives and test their ideas so skills become more meaningful. In addition to a pre-academic curriculum, preschoolers will be working on hands-on exploration, building friendships, and establishing classroom routines.

For more information, go to the AJUSD website at ajusd.org or call the TLC at 480-688-7570.
