Massive Mesa sports complex breaks ground Friday

A 320-acre sports and entertainment complex will break ground in Mesa on Friday.

Legacy Sports Park anticipates it will draw more than three million visitors annually, add 1,500 jobs and generate hundreds of millions of dollars in direct economy impact to the Valley. Developers say it will be the largest privately owned multi-sport facility in the U.S.

The park will be at Ellsworth and Pecos roads, just east of the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport. Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport is owned and operated by the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport Authority, which consists of representation from Mesa, Gilbert, Queen Creek, Gila River Indian Community, Phoenix and Apache Junction.

Outdoor facilities:

  • A multi-field soccer complex that includes 21 soccer fields with the ability to expand to 50
  • An 8,000-seat multi-purpose stadium
  • Soccer Performance Playground mirrored after Manchester United’s performance playground
  • 20 sand volleyball courts, including one stadium court
  • 40 pickleball courts, including one stadium court
  • Six sand soccer fields
  • Eight baseball/softball fields including one baseball/softball stadium
  • A 50-acre special events area for concerts, festivals, and events
  • A multipurpose outdoor amphitheater designed for concerts, family shows, exhibitions, and conventions

Indoor facilities:

  • 62 volleyball courts including one multi-purpose arena
  • 16 NBA-size basketball courts with one multi-purpose arena
  • Six Olympic-size futsal courts
  • A 75,000-square-foot eSports arena
  • A 50,000-square-foot venue for gymnastics, cheer, and dance center
  • A youth gym/childcare center
  • Yoga studios
  • A 25,000-square-foot sports performance center headed up by Olympic Gold Medalist Dan O’Brien
  • A 25,000-square-foot general fitness center, with health, fitness, wellness and nutrition coaches
  • A 20,000-square-foot sports bar and restaurant
  • Food courts
  • Athletic apparel shops
