Lauren Powell receives NAU scholarship with 100% tuition paid

Lauren Powell, a senior at Apache Junction High School, 2525 S. Ironwood Drive, was awarded the Lumberjack scholarship from Northern Arizona University.

She attended an awards ceremony on Feb. 23 at the Phoenix Art Museum to receive her recognition, according to a release.

The scholarship covers 100% of tuition, which is worth $16,000 per year.

It is awarded to Arizona residents who receive no grade lower than a B in high school and also maintain a minimum 3.5 core high school GPA, the release states.

Lauren  participates in student council and serves as the student body vice president. She has been active scholastically, artistically and in sports. She is a member of Rho Kappa and the National Honors Society as well as serving as the varsity captain for girls soccer and girls tennis.

She also played the violin in the school orchestra. Outside of school she serves as a member of the City of Apache Junction youth advisory council. She plans to major in parks and recreation management at NAU.
