John Timmons Tillson, 80, beloved father and friend, passed away peacefully on September 28, 2022. He entered this world on November 29, 1941, in Omaha, NE, born to John Norman and LaVeeta Grace Tillson where he lived for over 50 years. John came from a long line of golfers who settled in and around Omaha's historic Field Club neighborhood. It was here that he moved his young family to enjoy all the neighborhood had to offer in activities, education, and community. He loved to bowl and was active in leagues around the city. John enjoyed several holiday seasons with his buddies at the South Omaha fruit market to make extra money for his young family's Christmas presents. John began his career in the United States Postal Service as a Letter Carrier. As his expertise grew, he supported numerous improvements in the Omaha Division. John became President of Branch 5's National Association of Letter Carriers. He went on to proudly serve as Postmaster in the Boystown, Omaha and Plattsmouth, NE communities. He remained active in the Omaha community by serving on the Citizens Advisory Committee for the Omaha Public Power District, The Post Office Credit Union, and The National League of Postmasters, until his retirement in 1991. John received numerous accreditations for his 30 years of service to the USPS. John and his wife, Patty, enjoyed an early retirement and moved into a home they designed with a breathtaking view of the Superstition Mountains in Gold Canyon, AZ. Both John and Patty had a love for large breeds, Saint Bernards and English Mastiffs were their favorites, and they always had at least one to spoil. John's friends would say that his diplomatic nature served him well during their regular "coffee breaks". He was a man of good humor with a goal of making people smile. John's love for music was a favorite pastime, he enjoyed listening and sharing his favorite songs from his extensive music collection. He was admired in his community and always found time to lend a hand and to enjoy the rewards his hard work provided him. John will be deeply missed by his friends, family, and all who knew him. His wife, Patricia Tillson and granddaughter, Shelby Cherek, precede John in death. He leaves behind his five daughters, Chris (Steve) Williams; Patty (Keith) Veit; Pam (Tom) Godfrey; Shelly (Brian) Kuyatt; and Lori (Jason) Alford. He was a proud grandpa to Shelby Cherek and great-grandson Hunter Chrisman; Emily (Jared) Owens; Conner (Katie) Veit; Kyle (McKenzie) Veit; Madalyn Godfrey; Jonathan Godfrey; Raeann Alford; Louie Kuyatt; Charlotte Alford; and Gavin Kuyatt. Those that wish to gather in his memory are invited to raise a glass in Celebration of John's Life in Gold Canyon AZ. John's Facebook page will remain open for celebration details, for shared memories and final words from all who knew and loved him. Harper-Talasek Funeral Home in Temple is in charge of arrangements.
