EVIT Expo Saturday showcases career training programs

Jan. 29 event coincides with National School Choice Week

High school students and adults in the Phoenix metro area can explore career training options offered by the East Valley Institute of Technology during the 2022 EVIT Expo on Saturday.

Instructors and students in more than 40 programs will provide information and demonstrate the skills they are learning in classes ranging from aviation and automotive to health care and HVAC — and much more, according to a release.

The event will also include trolley tours of the EVIT Main Campus, food trucks and music provided by the student-run radio station, 88.7FM The Pulse, which was named the Best High School Radio Station in the nation last fall.

In addition, attendees can find information about services for veterans and military families, watch fire science students perform rescue skills and welding students test their skills in a fun competition, decorate cupcakes in the commercial baking program, and make videos with a green screen video booth.

The expo will be 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 29 at the EVIT Main Campus, 1601 W. Main St. in Mesa. Instructors and students from the EVIT Power Campus will also be at expo to provide information on their programs, including Aviation, which is bringing flight simulators, and veterinary assistant, which will have many pets and animals on display.

EVIT Expo coincides with the history-making celebration of National School Choice Week 2022, featuring tens of thousands of school choice celebrations across all 50 states. EVIT was featured in this year’s national kickoff video for school choice week, with Commercial Baking & Pastry Arts student Vanessa Ruiz serving as host of the video. “EVIT Expo is a great opportunity for students, parents and the public to see first-hand why EVIT is a great school choice option for high school students and adult students,” Superintendent Dr. Chad Wilson said in the release. “All of our instructors will be on hand to answer questions and give tours of their programs. Many of our current students will be there as well to demonstrate what they are learning and answer questions about why they chose EVIT. We truly believe that we change lives every day by loving our students and serving our community. We welcome everyone to come see that for themselves at EVIT Expo.”

EVIT is a public career technical education district providing tuition-free career training to high school students in the suburbs east of Phoenix, and tuition-based programs for Phoenix-area adults. EVIT has been recognized by Time Magazine as “the school that works,” featured in the national career and technical magazine Techniques, and voted numerous times by readers of the East Valley Tribune in Mesa as Best Public School.
