At 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, bells were ringing across the nation marking the 235th anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Constitution.
The Apache Trail Chapter of National Society Daughters of the American Revolution recognized this founding document by ringing a bell at Gold Canyon United Methodist Church, 6640 S. Kings Ranch Road in Gold Canyon.
Members participating included Claudine Davis, Bonny Payne, Rosemary Russell, Clara Williams, Kelly McDonald, Nita Bower, Bonnie Williams, Peggy Manseau, Tracy Callahan, Anne Eiland, Sally Phillips and Nancy Overman.
Other churches in the Valley were invited to join by ringing their bells at the same time.
Community members were encouraged to also join in the event by ringing their own bells or attend bell ringing at participating locations, the release states.
The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution was founded in 1890 to promote historic preservation, education and patriotism. Its members are descended from the patriots who won American independence during the Revolutionary War.
