Cox Communications officials report they are doing what they can for Valley residents to stay connected as schools and restaurants begin shutting down.

“As typical learning and work practices have changed many of us are being asked to stay close to home," said John Wolfe, senior vice president and region manager Cox Southwest Region, in a prepared statement. "Cox wants to assure everyone that keeping the community connected is our priority. We have opened up our Wifi hotspot network across Arizona, making more than 2,500 hotspot accessible to residents in Phoenix and southern Arizona.”

Specifically, Cox is stepping up and taking the following actions immediately:

  • The company is opening to the general public it’s 1,600 Wifi hotspots throughout the Valley and 900-plus in Tucson to help make sure everyone has access to the internet.
  • Cox will not terminate service and will waive late fees for any residential or small business customer because of an inability to pay their bills due to disruptions caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
  • Cox is providing its Connect2Compete internet product free for the first month and will provide remote desktop support at no charge so that families can load new applications they may need like online classroom support apps.
  • For the next 60 days, Cox is boosting internet speeds for its Starter, StraightUp Internet and Connect2Compete customers to 50 Mbps. Essential package customers will be upgraded to 50 Mbps now.
