Central Arizona College students and advisors recently attended the AZ Region Phi Theta Kappa convention at Yavapai College where they received multiple awards for their work during the 2021 academic year.
Awards received include:
Chapter Officer Award – Sevasti Silvia
Chapter Member Award – Jaymie Lee
Paragon Advisor Award (advisors serving less than five years) – Joe Faykosh
Distinguished Advisor Award (advisors serving five-plus years) – Professor Heather Moulton
Distinguished Advisor Award – Sandy Rath
Silvia was selected to serve as vice president of the Southern District for the Arizona Region of Phi Theta Kappa.
Additionally, students received honorable mention for their work on their college project and honors-in-action project. For the college project, the chapter assisted in restocking food pantries in the library at each CAC campus. They created a social media campaign to share with their peers that the food pantries exist. For their honors-in-action project, students researched diverse children’s book authors and characters. They then collected 100 books that were donated to local schools and community organizations to provide opportunities for students to read books with diverse representations.
Dr. Sandy Rath, PTK Advisor explained, “The students very much earned these awards through hard work and dedication. Not every chapter walks away from the convention with awards, so we are highly impressed with our students and the work that has been accomplished.”
