Art events April 4-5 at Queen Creek Olive Mill

[Update: The events have been canceled.]

The San Tan Artists Guild has planned an artful weekend April 4-5 at the Queen Creek Olive Mill, 25062 S. Meridian Road in Queen Creek.

The fun begins Saturday morning when plein air painters set up their easels and canvases to create artwork on-site throughout the grounds for the San Tan Artists Guild Plein Air Paintout.

"It’s a great opportunity for visitors to see how the 'magic happens'
as a blank canvas is turned into a finished painting in just a few hours. 'En plein air' is a French expression meaning 'in the open air' and is used to describe the art of outdoor painting and capturing landscapes and views in natural light," according to a release.

“It’s nice to step out of your studio and experience the sounds, smells and changes in light when you paint outside," Cheri Reckers, a Queen Creek painter whose work often includes San Tan Mountain vistas, said in the release. "It’s a multi-sensory experience that you just don’t have when painting indoors or from a photograph."

A second visual treat is scheduled for Sunday as the San Tan Artist Guild brings its spring juried fine art festival “Art in the Olive Grove” to the Queen Creek Olive Mill from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Take a relaxing stroll through the olive grove and view more than 20 booths of fine art by local artists.

Meet Jennifer Krueger, an award-winning wildlife portrait artist from San Tan Valley. Ask her about her watercolor painting, “Becoming Jane,” featuring Dr. Jane Goodall and her chimpanzees, that is currently in Dr. Goodall’s personal collection.

If you like abstract art, Barbara Usey, a longtime member of City Light Art Gallery in Las Vegas and the San Tan Artists Guild, will be showing her award-winning colorful abstract art. She’d love to tell you about the techniques she’s mastered and used in creating her unique work.

Also at the show will be Rachel Nabet, a needle-felting artist who creates colorful, whimsical pieces of wall art and sculptures. If you’ve never heard of needle felting or are just a little curious, stop by her booth and she'll show you how it's done.

Oil paintings, pastels, watercolors. ceramics, fiber, jewelry, photography and silk painting are among the other mediums you’ll see at this intimate show, the release states.

Admission is free. For more information, contact the San Tan Artists Guild at santanartistsguild.com.
