With fewer than 25,000 votes counted by the Pinal County Elections Department, incumbent Cami Garcia has received 86.02% of the ballots cast with six write-in candidates sharing 13.98% for three open positions for the Apache Junction Unified School District Governing Board. Tallied votes were last posted at 10:23:23 a.m. Nov. 12.
Unofficial write-in tallies as of Nov. 10 show Bobby Bauders and Gilbert “Gil” K. Cancio leading.
There are three open board positions for the Nov. 3 election.
Mrs. Garcia, 47, owner/broker of Western Lifestyle Realty in Apache Junction, is the only candidate on the ballot. The six write-in candidates are Bobby Bauders, Charles Beal, Gilbert Cancio, Thomas E. Kelly, Shirley Ooley and David Waldron.
Mr. Bauders, 21, works in sales at H&M and was on the AJUSD Calendar Advisory Committee in 2017.
Mr, Beal is a retired data center manager for a nationally recognized financial holdings company.
Mr. Cancio, 69, retired from Arizona Department of Corrections at the rank of captain in 2012.
Mr. Kelly, 70, works for the city of Apache Junction as police chief.
Ms. Ooley retired from the U.S. Department of Agriculture/National Resources Conservation Service as a soil scientist in 2002, as an urban conservationist in the Hamilton County Soil and Water Conservation District in 2007 and as an after-school educator for Indianapolis Parks and Recreation in 2012.
Mr. Waldron, 72, is retired and is a member of the Central Arizona College Board.
