The Apache Junction Mounted Rangers recently donated  $3,000 to the Good Shepherd Healing Ministries Horse Rescue for six essay winners to receive riding lessons. Maria Jones teaches the children.

AJMR selects winners from essays they turn in on why they should be chosen, according to a release.

Everything in the lessons is paid for and provided by the Apache Junction Mounted Rangers. This quarter's winners are Rylee Wells, Szara Richie, Raymond Kelsey, Nadine Owen, Princess Stepp and Cheyena.

Good Shepherd Healing Ministries Rescue is at 288 W. Smoketree St. in Apache Junction and welcomes volunteers. Go to facebook.com/rescuehorsesGSHM.

The Apache Junction Mounted Rangers is a volunteer peace-keeping organization that supports children and youth by providing safety measures at various community events.

It is a 501(c)3 nonprofit charitable organization that promotes the traditions of the Old West, as well as assisting with emergency food and educational needs, athletics and musical programs, academic assistance and charitable events.

AJMR members participate in parades, memorial services and rodeos while on horseback, quad runners or foot patrol.
