‘50 Over 50’ portrait exhibit focuses the lens on women 50 and older

Celebrate the beauty and accomplishments of women age 50 and over at the 50 over 50 photo exhibit developed by Gold Canyon photographer Rena Colling.

Colling will unveil the results of her project 3-5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 5, at the Gold Canyon Best Western, 8333 E. Sunrise Sky Drive. The open-house style exhibit is free to attend and everyone present will have the opportunity to enter a drawing to win a free outdoor photography session by Colling, according to a release.

The photo exhibit will feature photographs of women over 50 that Colling captured during a “model for a day session” in her private studio. The project was born from a movement that is gaining momentum across the nation that sets out to show that women of a certain age are accomplished, vibrant and relevant.

“When I embarked on this journey I knew that I was about to meet some incredible women and I did indeed. This photo exhibit includes an Arizona Hall of Fame veteran, a published author, survivors of cancer and domestic violence, along with women entrepreneurs and business owners who are all thriving and giving back.” Colling said in the release. “It is my hope that everyone in our society learns to see the value in all members regardless of their age. We are so much more than how many years we have been on this planet, though the number of years does give us the advantage of wisdom.”

Each portrait will be exhibited gallery-style alongside personal bios and quotes that Colling collected from each of the women featured in the exhibit. Colling hopes the younger generation will embrace the wisdom and strength offered. She also hopes the exhibit will show younger women that they can look forward to aging, and there is a new level of wisdom and beauty ahead.
