Foundation provides free copies of U.S. Constitution to support civics education

Posted

A local nonprofit organization has printed small pocketbook-sized editions of the U.S. Constitution and Declaration of Independence and making them available free of charge to Arizona school districts, private schools and families who home-school their children.

The Community Service Journalism Foundation, whose mission is to support local journalism, promote civics education and encourage civil discourse, published the booklets and is distributing them to area school districts.

Additional funding was provided by The Wellick Foundation, the Ilse Jahn Bolster Charitable Trust and Independent Newsmedia Inc. USA.

The small, 48-page booklets are provided to schools to use in civics classes. The booklets are for students to permanently keep as their own.

“We feel strongly about the value and importance of civics education, and what could be more important than citizens having their own copy of the U.S. Constitution,” said Bret McKeand, president of the CSJ Foundation.

“The Constitution and Declaration of Independence are our nation’s two most important documents and their impact on world history is tremendous. We think it’s important people – and especially students – have a copy of their own to read and study.”

The CSJ Foundation is distributing the booklets to school districts throughout Arizona. Booklets will generally be available to students in fifth or sixth grades, depending on what level civics education is taught in a particular school district.

Charter and private schools, as well as home-schooled students, can receive compliimentary copies by emailing bmckeand@newszap.com.

Copies of the booklet are also available at no charge at Independent Newsmedia Inc. USA, 17220 N. Boswell Blvd., Sun City, 85373.

The CSJ Foundation was founded in 2020 and is a 501(c)3 organization. Visit www.csjfoundation.org to learn more about the organization or to make a contribution.
