Arizona motorcycle helmet pilot program expands

Posted

The Arizona Motorcycle Safety and Awareness Foundation is collaborating with RideNow, Buddy Stubbs Harley-Davidson, Desert Wind Harley-Davidson and The Helmet Center to expand its helmet program.

The program gives people the opportunity to purchase a quality full-face or modular U.S. Department of Transportation helmet at a reduced cost. It includes some financial assistance from AMSAF and a 25% discount off of manufacturer suggested retail price from specified dealers, according to a release.

The applicant is required to fill out an application and donate $50 to AMSAF, which is tax-deductible.

If funds are not available, people will not be able to get into the application process, as it will be closed.

If AMSAF has additional funds available, applicants will receive a receipt with a promo code and instructions that they can take them to one of a number of specified qualified helmet dealers. The qualified Arizona dealers at this time are:

  • Buddy Stubbs Harley-Davidson
  • Desert Wind Harley-Davidson
  • RideNow
  • The Helmet Center

The letter will extend a credit for $125 off a specified helmet. In addition, the dealership will give an additional 25% off MSRP for select helmets. The promo code is only good for one full-face or modular DOT helmet defined in program, the release states.

"Note: Arizona is a state where riders have a choice whether to wear a helmet or not. AMSAF wants to assist those who choose to wear a helmet to financially be able to afford one," according to the release.

This program is possible due to grants from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, which wants to help reduce crashes and fatalities in Arizona it states.

The helmet program is open to all Arizona residents 15 years, six months old or older. Funds for the program come from donations, sponsorships and grants.
