$25.5M in tribal gaming contributions to state in 4th quarter of fiscal year

Posted

The Arizona Department of Gaming announced today $25.5 million in tribal gaming contributions were made to the Arizona Benefits Fund for the state’s fourth quarter of fiscal year 2020.

This amount represents a 5.2% decrease when compared to the same quarter of fiscal year 2019, according to a release.

“Like much of Arizona, our tribal partners did their part and closed casinos to help prevent the spread of COVID-19,” Ted Vogt, director of the Arizona Department of Gaming, said in the release. “While this signifies the first tribal gaming revenue decrease in three years, I am confident that this is not a long-term trend and the industry will bounce back stronger.”

Tribal gaming contributions to the Arizona Benefits Fund for the fourth quarter include:

  • Instructional Improvement Fund/Education, $12,751,877
  • Trauma and Emergency Services Fund, $6,366,488
  • Arizona Department of Gaming operating costs, $2,280,393
  • Arizona Wildlife Conservation Fund, $1,818,996
  • Tourism Fund, $1,818,996
  • Problem Gambling Education, Treatment and Prevention, $510,954

Per the Arizona Tribal-State Gaming Compact, tribes with casinos contribute 1% to 8% of their Class III gross gaming revenue to the state, cities, towns and counties. Currently, there are 25 Class III casinos in Arizona, which ADG regulates with Arizona tribes.
